  Sports medicine is a field that has evolved since the 1980’s out of a need for specialized care for patients of all ages from the little league pitcher to the geriatric marathon runner. The sports medicine physicians at CPOSM have specialized training and experience that promotes total lifelong fitness, prevention of illness and injury and helps patients maximize function. Our sports medicine physicians focus on non-operative and surgical solutions to all sports related injuries.   The sports medicine physicians at CPOSM are also skilled in the use of casting, splinting and bracing and sometimes manual therapy.

  Examples of musculoskeletal problems that our sports medicine physicians can treat include acute injuries to the knee, foot, ankle, shoulder, elbow, wrist, spine and sacroiliac joint as well as more chronic tendonitis/tendonopathy, arthritis, and stress fractures. Sports medicine physicians are trained in specialized injections of the major joints, soft tissue and spine in our office or if needed at an x-ray facility under fluoroscopic guidance.

  Our sports medicine physicians have an interest in exercise prescription for preventative health as well as return to play issues, strength training and conditioning.  We take care of athletes at the high school, collegiate and professional levels and have experience from team sports to extreme sports. Your physician will co-coordinate care between your primary care provider, other medical and surgical sub-specialists, or ancillary athletic trainers, physical therapists and other care givers.
